ECOWAS donates N60m to flood victims

The ECOWAS Commission has donated the sum of  $382,000 (about N60.3m) to flood victims in Nigeria.
Presenting the cheque on Monday  in Abuja to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, the President of the Commission, Kadre Ouedraogo, expressed his condolences to families of those who lost their lives.
In Ouedraogo’s words, “The extent of the disaster, which spans through communities in states along the Rivers Benue and Niger with heavy impact on Taraba, Benue, Kogi, Bayelsa and Delta states is most disturbing.
“Much more disturbing is the irreplaceable lives that were lost. While I know that there is no volume of assistance that can bring back lives, we wish to express our solidarity and compassion.”
The diplomat explained that providing assistance to alleviate the suffering of the people in the ECOWAS sub-region affected by humanitarian challenges was one of the mandates of the commission
