The Olympique de Marseille midfielder has been summoned by the French Football Federation’s ethics committee after he called Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva an ‘overweight ladyboy’ on Twitter. He also made other disparaging remarks of Silva’s weight and called him a transsexual.
Olympique Marseilles issued out an apology on behalf of its controversial player. ‘Olympique
Marseilles and Joey Barton wish to apologise to Thiago Silva and his
club for the inappropriate comments the English player made on social
media in the past 36 hours,’ it said.
Olympique Marseilles officials have
asked Joey Barton to end the row between him and the Brazilian defender.
The OM midfielder has promised to end right now the publication of any
invidious comments against Thiago Silva.
Meanwhile, Barton has described the
former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, who died aged 87, as
‘an old witch’ who would not have ‘a place in paradise’.
‘I could say ‘rest in peace Maggie’, but it wouldn’t be true. If paradise exists, there wouldn’t be a place for that old witch there’, Barton also wrote on Twitter.
