IYANYA, CHIDINMA AND SEAN TIZZLE SPEAKS ABOUT NBC BAN{via@234VIBES}

Two weeks ago, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission ordered all radio stations in the country to stop playing ‘The Matter’ by Maleek Berry featuring Wizkid and ‘Man of the Year’ by Phyno. This is not the first time the NBC has banned songs from the airwaves. Hip Hop World Magazine website spoke to Iyanya, Chidinma and Sean Tizzle about the NBC ban and if all songs should be screened by the NBC before they can get airplay. “It’s going kill creativity and breed hypocrisy. Music is all about expression. It flows naturally. Definitely, it won’t help the industry. You do music when you are in your best elements. If they screen everything, how will an artiste get an album? Some people actually listen to regular songs while people aren’t comfortable with such songs. They want something different. That’s it,” said Iyanya. First lady of Capital Hill, Chidinma spoke about the possibility of the NBC screening all songs. “It will lessen some of the songs we hear on radio that are not too pleasant. I hear some of these songs I kind of wonder somebody actually recorded that. Of course, should NBC give such a directive, I won’t be affected.” Different Entertainment frontman Sean Tizzle who just released a new music video Mama Eh, said “it is necessary that artistes actually censor their songs before commercialising them. Should NBC demand that all songs be screened by the commission, how do you expect an album to be complete if you have to screen everything? Anyway, it will not affect me as a person.”
